For the third time in two decades, the management at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia called Presto for repairs at the top of their flag pole. This flagpole sits on top of the Coca-Cola sign and it is nearly 300 foot in the air. Nowadays, we refer such small projects but what made it more complicated is they called me on a weekend with an emergency service to be done on Monday morning before a big game. The only issue was all of our team was working the night shift restoring the Georgia Aquarium and I didn't want split up my staff for such a small yet important project. So, I decided I was going to do it myself. Yes, that's right, the CEO of the company climbed that pole and got the job done.
Why did I do it? For a few reasons:
1. To help out a long time customer, The Braves, Turner Field & Turner Properties.
2. To show my team that I would never ask anyone to do something that I wasn't willing to do myself.
3. To personally overcome the mental and physical challenge.
4. Because it was downright exciting! I've never felt so alive as when I got off that pole and for the rest of the day. Will I do it again in the future? Probably not but I proved my point and got the job done for our client.
Turner Field is slated to move locations five months from now so this will likely be the last time the Presto team hugs that flag pole for the Braves at Turner Field. Farewell old friend... lots of good memories at that Stadium.
